Lightfoot, fronted by Tour de Force Jessica Louise Dye, is often seen performing around the East Coast with leading DC acts (Child Ballads, Laughing Man and Stripmall Ballads, to name a few). Lightfoot is Dye’s first solo project and is packed with, “witty song writing, clever instrumentation and cheerful cynicism.” (districtofsound.com). Dye’s “beautiful voice,” (newdust.com) colors the rich pop and folksy melodies her band weaves in distinct layers, creating music that sounds like the soundtrack to a stack of old Polaroids. Lightfoot saw their first performance in the spring of 2010 and have never looked back. A product of Dye’s tortured and restless song–crafting soul, Dye and her heartache take center stage in the form of adorable yet sorrowful sepia-toned folk rock. Backed by musicians from DC bands These United States, Mittenfields, and Child Ballads, Lightfoot’s diverse and unique line up creates music that is both a “pop-infused melancholy” and “triumphantly sad” (brightestyoungthings.com). Lightfoot’s group performances are electric and Dye’s emotive nature lingers in the audience’s mind. Lightfoot looks forward to releasing an EP and touring this summer, in addition to collaborating with guest musicians from across the country in re-imagining some of Lightfoot’s most evocative songs.
